DU sexual assault: Law enforcers’ role criticised

Women rights activists on Sunday expressed concerns as law enforcers have failed to arrest any of the offenders
in connection with the hour-long sexual assault on women that took place on Dhaka University campus during the Bangla New Year Celebration.
Addressing a protest rally in front of the Jatiya Press Club, they also expressed dissatisfaction over the role of the law enforcers and their remarks on the incident. The rally was organised by Samajtantrik Mahila Forum. Chaired by the Forum’s president Raushan Ara Rusho, the rally was also addressed by its general secretary Shampa Basu, members Shamsunnahar Josna, Maitri Barman and Ruksana Afroz Asha.
Speaking on the occasion, Shampa Basu, also a councilor candidate for word no. 5 under Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC, said it is very disappointing that no one has been arrested five days into the incident. Despite the claim of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner that 131 close circuit camera were installed around the area, and that everything was under their control Where were the law enforcers when assaulters molested women almost for an hour, she questioned.
