Launches left for southern districts on Saturday from Sadarghat Terminal with overloading passengers and charging extra fare.
No space was found vacant in the launches.
Banker Soliaman Hossain was found standing on Jahid-7 launch. He said that he was going to Barisal standing on, as he could not obtain a seat.
“I am happy to manage a space in the launch after a long struggle”, he said.
Tk 50-100 was charged extra from each for deck, Tk 200-500 for single cabin and Tk 500-1000 for double cabin, it was alleged.
BIWTA Joint-Director (Traffic) Joynal Abedin denied the extra fare. In response to the overloading passengers, he said that the BIWTA with the lawmen was observing it.
