Nusrat murder: Last witness testifies

Last witness in the case filed over the murder of Feni’s madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi yesterday (Wednesday) testified in the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Feni.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Zakir Hosain of the court recorded the depositions of witness no. 92, who is the charge submitting officer of PBI, on the 35th day of recording depositions. Last witness Md Shah Alam is PBI’s Feni branch Inspector. Acceding to the plea of the defence the court fixed Thursday to cross-examine him. It may be remembered that the total number witness in the case is also 92.
Meanwhile, public prosecutor Hafez Ahmmad on Monday told the court that the misdeeds of suspended Principal Siraj-Ud-Dowla
was clearly expressed in a letter, Nusrat wrote to her two friends. She high lightened there how Siraj violated her.  
On Wednesday also, all the 16 accused were produced in the court amidst tight security to avoid any kind of untoward situation. The court is scheduled to record the depositions of the witnesses on Thursday again. Nusrat’s elder brother Mahmudul Hasan Noman is the complainant of the case and the depositions of the witnesses begun on June 27 with recording the depositions of his witness.
Earlier, on May 29, the PBI pressed charges against 16 persons including prime accused Siraj-Ud Daula, the principal of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa and Awami League leader Ruhul Amin over the killing of Nusrat. The PBI pressed charges dropping the names of five persons, out of the total 21 accused of the case. They submitted an 808-page charge sheet in the court of Magistrate Jakir Hossain. Of the 16 accused mentioned in the charge sheet, 12 have already given their confessional statements in the concerned magistrate courts. Other accused persons are- Nur Uddin, 20, Shahdat Hossain Shamim, 20, Maksud Alam alias Moksud Al councilor,50, Saifur Rahman Mohammad Jobayer, 21, Jabed Hossain alias Sakhwat Hossain Jaber,19, Hafez Abdul Kader, 25, Afsar Uddin,33, Kamrun Nahar Moni, 19, Umme Sultana Popy alias Tuhin alias Shampa alias Champa,19, Abdur Rahim Sharif, 20, Eftekhar Uddin Rana, 22, Imran Hossain alias Mamun, 22, Mohammad Shamim, 20 and Mohiuddin Shakil,20.
On April 6, Nusrat Jahan Rafi, 18, was set afire at an examination centre of Alim examination allegedly by students loyal to Principal Siraj Ud Doula of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa after he was arrested and subsequently suspended as Rafi had accused him of sexually harassing her. After fighting for her life for five days, Nusrat succumbed to her injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in the capital on the night of April 10, five days after the heinous incident.
