Sri Lanka took the upper hand scoring 200 for the loss of eight wickets in the second innings against Bangladesh on the second day of the second Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Friday.
Earlier, Bangladesh were all out for a meager 110 on the first innings on the second day.
Electing to bat first, Sri Lanka scored 222 in the first innings on the first day (Thursday).
Sri Lanka have overall 312 runs lead remaining two wickets.
Bangladesh resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 56 for the loss of four wickets.
Liton Das and Mehedi Hasan Miraz resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 24 and five runs respectively.
But Liton could add just one run on the second day as he was cleanly bowled out by Suranga Lakmal when Bangladesh’s total was 73 for the loss of five wickets.
Then Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Mahmudullah Riyad contributed together 34 runs for the sixth wicket partnership before Riyad (17) was bowled out by Akila Dananjaya when Bangladesh’s total
was 107 for the loss of six wickets. After Riyad’s dismissal, Bangladesh batsmen failed to make any notable partnership.
Miraz remained unbeaten with 38. His 78-ball innings had two fours and a sixer.
Sixth-down Sabbir Rahman (0) was caught at the midwicket by Dinesh Chandimal off Akila Dananjaya when Bangladesh’s score was 107 for the loss of seven wickets.
Seventh-down batsman Abdur Razzak (1) was caught and bowled by Akila Dananjaya when the team’s total was 109 for the loss of eight wickets.
Number-10 batsman Taijul Islam (1) was run out by Kusal Mendis when Bangladesh’s score was 110 for the loss of nine wickets.
Mustafizur Rahman (0) was trapped leg before wicket by Dilruwan Perera and Bangladesh’s first innings came to an end.
Akila Dananjaya and Suranga Lakmal grabbed three wickets each at the cost of 20 and 25 runs respectively, while Dilruwan Perera bagged a couple of wickets for 32 runs.
Later, Sri Lanka had an unstable start as opener Kusal Mendis (7) was trapped leg before wicket by Abdur Razzak when the islanders’ total was 19.
Then Dimuth Karunaratne and Dhananjaya de Silva repaired the damage adding 34 runs for the second wicket partnership before Dhananjaya de Silva (28) was cleanly bowled out by Taijul Islam when the tourists’ score was 53 for the loss of two wickets.
Second-down Danushka Gunathilaka (17) was trapped leg before wicket by Mustafizur Rahman when Sri Lanka’s total was 80 for the loss of three wickets.
Opener Dimuth Karunaratne (32) was caught at the midwicket by Imrul Kayes off Mehedi Hasan Miraz when the visitors’ score was 92 for the loss of four wickets.
Then Dinesh Chandimal and Roshen Silva built a notable partnership. They put on together 51 runs before Chandimal (30) was trapped leg before wicket by Mehedi Hasan Miraz when the touring side’s total was 143 for the loss of five wickets.
Roshen de Silva remained unbeaten with 58. His 94-ball innings was ornamented with nine fours. It was his second Test half-century.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Niroshan Dickwella (10) was caught at the square leg by Mahmudullah off Taijul Islam when Sri Lanka’s score was 170 for the loss of six wickets.
Sixth-down Dilruwan Perera (7) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Liton Das off Mustafizur Rahman when Sri Lanka’s total was 178 for the loss of seven wickets.
Seventh-down Akila Dananjaya (0) was caught behind by Liton Das off Mustafizur Rahman when Sri Lanka’s score was 178 for the loss of eight wickets.
Suranga Lakmal was on seven before the bails were drawn for the second day.
Mustafizur Rahman captured three wickets at the cost of 35 runs, while Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam bagged a pair of wickets each for 29 and 72 runs respectively.
Besides, Abdur Razzak got one wicket conceding 60 runs.
