Lanka, S’pore greet Hasina

Sri Lanka, Singapore and SAARC Secretary General have congratulated Sheikh Hasina on her assuming the office of Prime Minister.
Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, and Sri Lanka’s President Mahinda Rajapaksa, in separate messages also showed their interest to continue their engagement with Bangladesh for further strengthening relationship.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, SAARC Secretary General Ahmed Saleem hoped under Hasina’s leadership Bangladesh would continue “support and cooperation” for further regional cooperation.
In a media release, it said the Premier of Singapore
appreciated Bangladesh’s achievements in MDGs, and “for her impressive economic performance” despite global challenges in the last five years.
He stressed on “strengthening bilateral cooperation” between the two countries.
Sri Lanka’s President in a separate message mentioned his “keen interest” for further strengthening bilateral relations, it said.
Hasina became the prime minister for the second successive term after the Jan 5 elections in which her arch-rival BNP did not join.
