State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak said language labs will be set up at 64 districts aiming to create an opportunity for students to learn foreign languages.
“Nine foreign languages including French, Chinese and Korean will be taught at the language labs,” he told reporters on Wednesday after a call on with French Ambassador to Bangladesh Sophie Aubert at ICT Division here.
During the meeting, they discussed signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Bangladesh and French governments on establishing language labs for expansion of French language.
Under the MoU, call centres will be set up from where interested Bangladeshi learners will be able to communicate with retired French people to improve French language skill, he added.
Secretary of ICT Division Shayam Sundar Sikdar and Communication Specialist of Leveraging ICT for Growth, Employment and Governance (LICT) Project Ajit Kumar Sarkar, among others, were present at the meeting.
As current export volume of ICT sector stands at 300 million, Palak said the government has set a one billion export target in the ICT sector by 2018 and five billion by 2021.
To fulfill the target, the government has implemented massive ICT-based programmes across the country, he added.
Many French big companies are keen to invest ICT sector as they are considering Bangladesh as an emerging market, the state minister added.
The French ambassador said like other sectors, the French government can work with Bangladesh to further boost the ICT sector.
