Lalon’s festival starts in Jhenaidah

A three-day festival on the occasion of 125th death anniversary of the most important spiritual poet Lalon Shah was started at his village home at Harishpur in Harinakundu upazila of Jhenaidah on Friday.
Hundreds of followers and fans of the poet had gathered at Harishpur where they have been discussing on the life, works and the thought of Lalon.
Discussion meeting, singing of Lalon songs, village fair, demonstration of poet’s photo etc. had taken place among the programmes there.
Madhu Shah, a fan of spiritual Lalon said, Laloan was born at village Harishpur in Harinakundu upazila where his successors have been living.
Lalon researcher Professor Dr Anisuzzaman of Dhaka University said, Lalon was the most important spiritual poet in Indo-Bangla sub continent.
He was a Baul researcher, author, lyric and singer as well which made him Baul Emperor. The fans believe that Lalon had realized the creature of the world and tried to express the motive of the creation by the Almighty.
Jhenaidah municipality mayor, also general secretary of Jhenaidah District unit of Awami League Saidul Karim Mintu expressed that each and everything should be done to bring Lalon Shah in the limelight as she had shown the right way and means to humanity.
Saidul supporting the demand of the Lalon fans and people for establishing a university in the name of Laon, for more research and academic expansion of his works at Harishpur.
Jhenaidah Deputy Commissioner Mahbub Alam Talukder in his speech said, the real history should be thrown among the people throughout the country.
