LafargeHolcim donates Tk 99.57 lakh to BLWF fund

LafargeHolcim Bangladesh Limited, a cement producing company donated Taka 99.57 lakh, a fixed portion of its last year’s profit to Bangladesh Labour Welfare Foundation (BLWF) fund. General Manager of the company ABM Mamun-or-Rashid recently handed over a donation cheque for Taka 99,57,377 to State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian at her office in the Secretariat , said a press release.Bangladesh Labour Welfare Foundation (BLWF) Director General Dr Mollah Jalal Uddin and LafargeHolcim Bangladesh Limited’s labour representative Jahangir Alam were present, among others, on the occasion. As per the Labour Law, a total of 176 local, international and multinational companies donate one of tenth of five percent of their total profit to the BLWF fund.
A total of Taka 490 crore, so far, has been deposited to the BLWF fund. Of the fund, assistances of about Taka 44 crore have been given to about 10,500 workers of institutional and non-institutional sector. Besides, a four-member delegation led by former secretaries Dr Mahfuzul Haque and Michail Shiper handed over a report titled “Developing Guidelines for Joint Policy Recommendations on decent Labour Rights of Informal Waste and Sanitation Workers” published by the Practical Action in Bangladesh to the state minister.
Former Additional Secretary Md Aminul Islam and Project Manager of Practical Action in Bangladesh Uttam Kumar were present on the occasion.
