Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Engineer Khandker Mosharraf Hossain Sunday said the parliament that labour wing at 28 missions are working for new destinations to send workers abroad with employment.
“We have sent a proposal to public administration ministry for approval to open labour wing at new places having 150 posts under Bangladesh missions abroad,” he said while replying to a tabled question from a treasury bench member Noor Jahan Begum.
Meanwhile, the public administration ministry approved to open labour wing at 12 places, having 101 posts out of 21 labour wings, Mosharraf said.
He said Bangladesh sends workers to 159 countries globally including Europe, Middle-East and Asian countries and sends 65,022 workers in Europe from 2002 to 2013. Besides, 1,099 workers went to Belarus during the last two years.
Replying to another question from Didarul Alam, the minister told the House that the government has taken various measures to prevent human trafficking and undocumented migration under Overseas Employment and Migration Act-2013 and the Prevention and Suppression of Human Trafficking Act-2012.
Besides, the ministry has initiated to publish documentary/short drama prepared by International Organisation of Migration (IOM) to raise awareness among common people across the country to prevent human trafficking.
