Leading steelmaker KSRM has been supplying free oxygen to corona medical centres in the country.
The company provided free oxygen to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) from the beginning, followed by supplying Chittagong General Hospital, said a press release.
Apart from Chittagong, KSRM also plans to provide free oxygen to various government and private hospitals in Rajshahi, Sylhet, Rangpur and Barisal divisions.
It will deliver oxygen, especially to hospitals, where there is an oxygen crisis.
The company mainly produces oxygen for use in rod manufacturing plants. They have an oxygen plant in Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong.
The production capacity of that plant with two compressors is 1,000 cubic metres per hour.
Although oxygen has been produced for factory use for so long, recently medical oxygen is also being produced.
The produced oxygen is being supplied to various health centers to deal with the corona situation.
In addition, KSRM has been providing PPE, masks, hand sanitizers, food items and cash assistance in various sectors including health centers since the Covid-19 outbreak in the country.
Oxygen was handed over to Chittagong General Hospital on Sunday, where Civil Surgeon and senior KSRM officials were present at a brief ceremony organized to hand over the oxygen cylinders in the conference room of the hospital.
Chittagong Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi said that KSRM is a noble and public interest initiative.
KSRM will not only fill the cylinder with oxygen, it will refill the cylinder when it runs out.
KSRM General Manager Syed Nazrul Islam said: “The prevalence of Covid-19 has increased in the country in recent times. Countless people are dying without getting oxygen only in emergencies. We think that any disaster cannot be handled by the government alone unless different sectors come forward. ”
