Exhibition on ‘History of Bangla Printing’ begins

A month-long exhibition on “History of Bangla Printing in Old Printing Machine” began on Saturday at National Museum in the city.
Finance Ministry Senior Secretary Hedayetullah Al Mamun inaugurated the exhibition with National Museum Trustee Board Chairman Artiste Hashem Khan in the chair.
Professor of Dhaka University History Department Muntassir Mamoon, Professor Muhammad Jahangir and writer Ali Imam joined the inaugural function and dwelt on history of Bangla printing.
To let the citizens of Dhaka to know the history of printing in Bangla, the National Museum organized the exhibition in memory of the journalist Harinath Majumdar, better known as Kangal Harinath, who had set up a printing press for his journal “Gram Barta Prokashika” in 1873 at Kumarkhali upazila in Kushtia district.
Ancient printing machines and tools and the evolution of Bangla alphabets and ancient alphabets will be showed in the exhibition.
The month-long exhibition will continue till October 8 and will stay open from 10.30 am to 5.30pm every day except Thursday.
