Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen has said Saudi Arabia wants to send Rohingyas living in that country to Bangladesh.
He disclosed it at a press conference following an inter-ministerial meeting held in the city.
The Foreign Minister said Saudia Arabia gave shelter to some 54,000 Rohingyas in 1980. Now, the number of the family members has increased manifold. Many were born there and they speak in Arabic.
“The Saudi Arabian government wants to send these Rohingyas back to Bangladesh and they requested Dhaka to issue passports for them,” he said.
“We told them that if those Rohingyas had Bangladeshi passport, we would issue travel documents in favour of them. But, we won’t take responsibility if they had gone to Saudi Arabia from somewhere else. We’ve already informed it.”
Momen also said a committee headed by the Foreign Secretary, has been formed to resolve the issue of Rohingyas.
