Seven gamblers including a brother of Kotchandpur Municipality Mayor were arrested by the detective branch police on Saturday midnight. They were arrested from the ground floor of a four-storied building near sugarcane centre in the town.
The police seized cash and gambling instruments from their possession, the detective branch police said.
Mahbul Karim, sub inspector of Jhenaidah DB police said, acting on a tip off contingent of the DB police conducted a drive and arrested Jahurul Islam, a younger brother of Kotchandpur municipality Mayor Jahidul Islam, Shahjahan Ali, Saimun Ali, Mijanur Rahman, Abdul Motaleb, Hossain and Khaledur Rahman Titon when they were engaged in the gambling.
The police said, Shahjahan Ali had been using his room of the building for gambling purposes for a long time. The arrested were sent to a Jhenaidah court, the sub inspector said.
