Staff Reporter :A Dhaka court on Saturday placed Tanzin Rahman on a five-day remand in connection with the killing of her two children in the city’s Bashabo area.Metropolitan Magistrate Golam Nabi passed the order after police produced her on the court seeking a seven-day remand. Police arrested her from a house at Sabujbagh on Saturday morning, She confessed her involvement with the double murder, the police official claimed, said Abdul Kuddus, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sabujbagh Police Station. “We will investigate whether anyone else was involved in the killings,” he said.The mother, who is said to be mentally unstable, remained traceless since the hacked bodies of her two children were recovered last night, the OC said. Tanzin reportedly killed her two siblings with a sharp machete in a residence in the city’s Uttar Bashabo area on Friday night. Police found the throat-slit bodies lying in a pool of blood on the roof-top flat at 10:30pm .The deceased were identified as Mashrafee Bin Mahbub Abrar, 7, and his sister Humaira Bin Mahbub Takiya, 6, said the Officer-in-Charge of Sabujbagh Police Station.The boy was a madrasa student and his sister was a student of a local kindergarten. They came from Muradnagar upazila of Comilla district. The incident might have occurred between 7:30PM and 8:30 PM, the police official said. Their father Mabubur Rahman, a Computer Operator of Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority,(WASA), said, “He found the door of their residence on aseven-storied building at 157/2 (near Sabujbagh Community Center) locked from outside around 9:00 pm when he returned after saying Esha prayers at a local mosque. Later, he entered the house unlocking it only to find the slaughtered bodies of the children in the bedroom.”However, Mahbubur did not find his wife Tanzina Rahman at the house and he filed a case with the police station in this connection.A machete was found in one room, but police are yet to ascertain if it was used in the killing, said Sheikh Md Maruf Hasan, Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).The mother is a suspect, he said, adding, “We’re investigating it. We can’t confirm if the mother took help from anyone else in the killing.”Tanzina was missing since the incident and she is one of the main suspects, the ADC said.A forensic team has visited the spot and investigation is going on, he said.Laila Noor, aunt of the victims, said Tanzin had been mentally unstable for the last few years.”The mother never used to take good care of the kids,” she said adding that she took Tanzin to a psychiatrist on the Green Road a couple of years ago.On March 1, two siblings were allegedly killed by their mother in a flat in the capital’s Banasree. They were Nusrat Aman Aroni, 14, and her six-year-old borther Alvi Aman.Their mother Mahfuza Malek Jesmin confessed to the RAB on March 4 that she killed her two kids.
