Kidney transplant costing Tk.1.5 lakh only at Gonoshasthaya Hospital

Staff Reporter:Kidney transplant will cost only one and a half lakh taka, said the founder and trustee of Gonoshasthaya Kendra Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury. He said this in a seminar on the occasion of World Kidney Day on Thursday at Guerrilla Commander Major ATM Haider Bir Uttam auditorium, Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital, Dhanmondi. 

Dr. Mamun Mostafi, Head Professor, Department of Kidney Diseases, Dr. Muhib Ullah Khandaker, Coordinator, Gonoshasthaya Dialysis Center, Dr. Manzur Kadir Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer, Gonoshasthaya Kendra also spoke on the occasion.

Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury said kidney patients are becoming destitute to meet the cost of medicines. The government can reduce the price of medicines if they want. He appealed to the wealthy and charitable organizations of the society to come forward for the help of kidney transplantation. Mentioning the urgency of more than a thousand kidney transplants every year, Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury said, “Although kidney transplants have been done in a few private institutions in our country, the government has stopped it with various excuses.”

In his speech, Prof. Dr. Mamun Mostafi discussed in detail the quality of dialysis in Gonoshasthaya Kendra and the motive behind the improved services at low cost. He said, “The standard of dialysis in Gonoshasthaya Kendra is unique in the world. Due to various reasons including donations from the rich and use of own pharmaceutical products, Gonoshasthaya Kendra is able to provide services at low cost.”

Dr. Manzur Kadir Ahmed, chief executive officer of Gonoshasthaya Kendra, said serving people is like an addiction. He called upon the rich people of the society to come forward to serve the needy people. 

 Barrister Rasna Imam also spoke online about resolving the legal complexities of kidney transplants on the occasion.
