Kidney transplant cost Tk.1.5 lakh at GK

Kidney transplant will be affordable for poor patients at Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital, Dhanmondi in the capital. It can be done at a cost of Tk. 1.5 lakh only.
Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury, the founder and trustee of Gonoshasthaya Kendra said it in a programme recently in the Guerrilla Commander Major ATM Haider Bir Uttam Auditorium of the hospital.
He said, kidney patients are struggling to meet the cost of medicines and medical services.
The government can reduce the price of medicines if they want. He appealed to the wealthy and charitable organizations and persons of the society to come forward for the help of kidney transplantation.
The Freedom Fighter said more than one thousand kidney transplants are done every year. To meet its urgency, Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury said, “Although kidney transplants have been done in a few private institutions in our country, the government has stopped it with various excuses which is pushing the patients more vulnerable conditions.”
Professor Dr. Mamun Mostafi, Head of the Department of Kidney Diseases, discussed in details the quality of dialysis in Gonoshasthaya Kendra and the motive behind the improved services at low cost.
He said, “The standard of dialysis in Gonoshasthaya Kendra is unique in the world. Due to various reasons including donations from the rich and use of own pharmaceutical products, Gonoshasthaya Kendra is able to render services at low cost.”
Dr. Manzur Kadir Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of Gonoshasthaya Kendra, said serving people is like an addiction.
Dr. Muhib Ullah Khandaker, Coordinator, Gonoshas-thaya Dialysis Center, Gonoshasthaya Kendra also spoke on the occasion.
Barrister Rasna Imam also spoke online about resolving the legal complexities of kidney transplants on the occasion.
