Khulna WASA implementing water supply project costing Tk 2,500cr

Khulna Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (KWASA) is implementing a project by spending Tk. 2,500 crore aims at bringing a qualitative change in the water supply system of Khulna city.
According to officials concerned, implementation works of the seven year project is progressing fast.
On successful implementation of the project by 2018, a sustainable water supply system would be built in the metropolis.
Managing Director of KWASA Engineer Abdullah said, the government has taken the Surface Water Treatment Plant Project (SWTPP) to increase the supply of safe water to the 15 lakhs city dwellers.
He said, KWASA is supplying 11.60 crore liter water against its 24 crore liter demand everyday for the city dwellers from its 9,900 tube-wells and 78 pumps after extracting groundwater.
The project includes, construction of 7 distribution reservoirs in the city while a big reservoir containing capacity 7.70 crore liter at the main plant area at Shamontasena under Rupsha upazila, 683 km pipe line and 10 over head tanks.
At least 45% works has been completed to set up pipe line out of 650km, and 80% would be completed by June this year while remain works would be completed by October next, he said.
Abdullah said, construction works to set up 33km pipeline in the river will begin in April next.
Khulna Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (KWASA) is implementing the project with technical assistant of China Herbour Company.
After completing the project, a total of 11 crore liters water will be purified everyday and 77.70 crore liters water will be reserved at the reservoir.
KWASA will bring sweet water from Modhumoti River and purify to supply the customers.
