Graft case: Khoka, 3 others get 10-yr jail term

A Dhaka court yesterday sentenced four persons including former Dhaka City Corporation Mayor and BNP leader Sadeque Hossain Khoka to 10 years imprisonment each in the Banani Super Market car parking graft case.
Special Judge of Dhaka Division Mizanur Rahman Khan announced the verdict in absence of the all convicts on Wednesday morning.
The court also fined Sadeque Hossain Khoka Tk 20 lakh and three others Tk 10 lakh each.
The other accused are: Abdul Baten, President of DCC super market in Banani; Mahmudul Hassan Azad, its General Secretary; and AHM Tareque, Manager of the market’s parking lot.
All three are now on bail, while Khoka, currently in London, was shown fugitive in the case.
On February 15, 2012, Md Mahbubul Alam, Assistant Director of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), filed the graft case with Shahbagh Police Station over embezzlement of fund.
Meanwhile, the High Court Division of the Supreme Court will deliver its verdict today on the bail petitions filed by former Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) Mayor Khoka’s son Ishraque Hossain and his daughter Sarika Sadeque in two separate corruption cases.
Ishraque, a BNP candidate from Dhaka-6 Constituency in the upcoming Parliamentary Election. Meanwhile, Sarika appeared before a High Court Bench for bail in the cases.
The ACC filed two separate cases with Ramna Police Station against Ishraque and Sarika on August 30 and 29 in 2010 for not submitting their statements to the Commission.
