The five-member medical board of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) checked BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s all previous medical reports at the hospital on Sunday.
They will examine Khaleda Zia’s health condition today (Monday), said Brigadier General Abdullah Al Harun, Director of BSMMU, after examining the papers. At the moment, treatment will continue as before, he said.
Earlier, the board members went to Khaleda Zia’s cabin on the 5th floor of Cabin Black at 11:30am.
The BSMMU director said, there is no pro-AL or pro-BNP doctors forum’s member in the medical board.
He also said, Cardiology Specialist Dr. Tanjeena Parveen has replaced Dr. Sajal Kumar Banarji in the medical board.
Khaleda Zia was admitted to the BSMMU on Saturday afternoon after the prison authorities shifted her there from old Dhaka Central jail after a court order for her medical treatment.
It is to be noted that a five-member fresh medical board, headed by Dr Abdul Jalil Chowdhury, a professor of Medicine Department, was formed as per the court order.
The High Court on Thursday directed the government to immediately admit Khaleda Zia to the BSMMU and form a five-member medical board afresh for her treatment.
Khaleda Zia had been in the erstwhile Dhaka Central Jail since February 8 after she was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment in a graft case.
Meanwhile, Khaleda Zia’s lawyers headed by BNP Standing Committee Member Barrister Moudud Ahmed met with the BSMMU director and asked him to give proper treatment to Khaleda Zia as per High Court’s order.
Moudud Ahmed, however, said there are two pro-AL physicians in the medical board, though the court prohibited it.
