Ehsanul Haque Jasim :
BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is determined to remain at her Gulshan office in the city until the ongoing movement brings out some positive result.
The BNP chief is not going to the court tomorrow (Wednesday), for attending hearing in the Zia Orphanage and Zia Charitable Trust cases. Her lawyer Advocate Sanaullah Miah on Monday told the media that she would not appear in the court for security reasons despite the pending arrest warrant against her.
Sources said that besides the security issue for her not turning up in the court on the scheduled day, Khaleda Zia’s lawyers would also refer to the incident that the BNP supporters were attacked by the ruling party men in Bakshibazar area when Khaleda Zia was going to attend a hearing in this case on December 24.
On February 25, the Special Judge Court-3, set up on the premises of Madrasah-e-Alia Dhaka, issued the arrest warrant against Khaleda Zia, as she did not appear in the court. The court also fixed March 4 for the next hearing.
BNP leaders believe that this arrest warrant is a part of the government’s political strategy to bring out Khaleda Zia from her office and weaken the ongoing anti-government movement.
Khaleda Zia is therefore unwilling to go to the court. A BNP leader said, “Khaleda Zia won’t leave the office right now.”
