Talks with President: Khaleda to lead BNP delegation

BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia will lead a 10-member delegation for talks with President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban on December 18 over reconstitution of the Election Commission (EC).
The party on Thursday noon handed over a list of 10 members comprising Begum Khaleda Zia, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, and eight of its standing committee members to the office of Bangabhaban.
The other members are: Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Lietenant General (Rtd) Mahbubur Rahman, Dr. Abdul Moeen Khan, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy,
Nazrul Islam Khan and Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.
Three BNP Assistant Office Secretaries Taiful Islam Tipu, Munir Hossain and Belal Ahmed submitted the list to the Bangabhaban officials.
The President on Monday initiated a move for talks with registered political parties on the reconstitution of the EC and invited five parties, including the BNP in this regard.
Bangabhaban also requested the BNP to send the names of not more than 10 delegates to the Bangabhaban by December 15. The BNP Chief earlier urged the government to sit with political parties for talks over reconstitution of EC as the tenure of the present commission will expire in February.
The BNP also sent two copies of Khaleda Zia’s proposal to the Bangabhaban.
The President also invited the Jatiya Party (Ershad) on December 20, the Liberal Democratic Party, the Krishak Sramik Janata League on December 21, and the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Inu) on December 22.
Other registered political parties would be invited in phases; President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin said.
