BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will be shifted to Keraniganj Jail after her treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) soon, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said on Tuesday.
“Khaleda Zia will be taken to Keraniganj jail after her discharge from the BSMMU hospital. Preparations to shift her are complete. The new central jail has been prepared to shift her there,” he said this to reporters at his office at the Secretariat.
The Home Minister also said that the old central jail in Nazimuddin Road, where the BNP chief had been kept since February last year, will be converted into a museum.
Replying to a query, the Home Minister said, “The health condition of the former prime minister is well. She is fasting and taking insulin as well.”
Khaleda Zia has been in jail since February 2018 in graft cases but her party claimed that the cases were politically motivated.
She (Khaleda) was admitted to BSMMU on April 1. It was the second time she had been admitted there since her incarceration.
On Monday, the government decided to hold trials of 17 cases against her inside the Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj.
