UNB, Chittagong :
A case was filed against three people, including BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and her son and party’s senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman, for allegedly threatening Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through facebook.
Abdul Kadir Sujon, information and research affairs secretary of Chittagong (South) unit of Awami League, filed the case with the court of Chittagong Additional
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate ASM Shahidullah Kaiser, Under Section 57 of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act on Monday.
The other accused in the case was Irad Ahmed Siddique, a member of BNP’s National Executive Committee and son of former BNP standing committee member Chowdhury Tanveer Ahmed Siddique, who posted his Facebook status on September 25, saying, “It’s not possible to bring back democracy and balance of power in Bangladesh without assassinating Sheikh Hasina.” Besides, those who liked and made comments on the facebook status were made accused in the case. However, the number of the accused could not be known yet.
Petitioner Abdul Kadir Sujon said Irad Ahmed also made a derogatory comment about the Father of the Nation and published the post through his facebook status on September 15.
Sujon also said, “As a member of the BNP’s National Executive Committee, Irad cannot post such a statement on his facebook wall alone…it might be a decision of the party. Its top two leaders must know the fact. I think Irad might have posted the statement after getting permission from them.”
Earlier, Bedarul Alam Chowdhury Bedar, a leader of Awami League (north) unit filed a case against Irad with Kotwali Police Station on September 28.
