BSS, Dhaka :
“BNP leader Khaleda Zia is following the footsteps of her husband, who physically eliminated his political rivals to monopolize power. But there is no place for such politics in Bangladesh.
Khaleda Zia should apologize to the nation for the misdeeds of her husband,” Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, MP, yesterday, told a gathering at the Taher Auditorium here.
Paying glowing tributes to Colonel Abu Taher, Inu said, “As part of a deep-rooted conspiracy to take
back Bangladesh to the Pakistani mould, Ziaur Rahman not only killed Colonel Taher but also over two and a half thousand soldiers turning the cantonments into an abattoir.”
His widow, Khaleda Zia is following in the same path, he said. She, too, is protecting and encouraging the killers of 1971 and 1975 as well as the grenade attackers of 21st August (2004), he added.
Besides, she also killed over 150 people in the name of movement this year, he said. Clearly explaining the politics of the Grand Alliance government, he said, “We do not believe in the politics of killing.
On the contrary, we want an end to it. And that is why we are trying those accused of crimes.”
He also rebuffed those who take up the cause of political leaders when they are tried and said, “We believe in the rule of law and it will apply equally to all, irrespective of their political affiliation or stature. We want to break the culture of impunity that has prevailed so far.”
The information minister, also president of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JASHOD), was speaking as the chief guest at a meeting to commemorate the martyrdom of Abu Taher 39 years ago at the Dhaka Central Jail on July 21, 1976. Chaired by executive president of JASHOD, Moinuddin Khan Badal, MP, the meeting was also addressed, among others, by Shirin Akhter, MP, Nazmul Haq Prodhan, MP, and other party leaders.
