Ehsanul Haque Jasim :
BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is planning to visit some district and divisional headquarters in the coming days. She will address rallies during her visit, party sources said.
Meanwhile, in order to reorganise the party, BNP has decided to reconstitute all the committees from grassroots to national levels after the party’s failure to resist the Januray-5 ‘one-sided’ election.
Senior leaders of the party will visit districts and upazilas across the country to get the real picture of the party in the lower tiers and reorganise the party in the grassroots level ahead of the upazila election. The party has formed 56 organising committees, which will
begin touring 75 organisational districts from tomorrow (Sunday).
After completing the nationwide tours, the committees will submit their reports to the party high-command as well as to the party chief. After the evaluation of the reports, the party will decide the next course of action and an intensive organisational programme will be announced on the basis of the outcome of the tours, said BNP standing committee member Lt Gen (Retd) Mahbubur Rahman.
Mahbubur Rahman, who is also chief of an organisational committee, said that they would mobilise the people in the district tours and party activists against the Januray-5 election and gear up the anti-government movement so that it would be forced to restore the caretaker government provision. The organising committees would work to strengthen the BNP and its associate bodies across the country while they would try to find out the weakness of the leadership of district and upazila committees and mitigate the internal feud in the grassroots, he added.
Mahbubur Rahman will lead the organisational team in Nilphamari and Syedpur districts, BNP acting secretary general in Dhaka city, Dhaka district and Gazipur district units, Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain in Comilla and Chandpur, Tarikul Islam in Jessore and Khulna, Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar in Dinajpur and Panchagarh, Goyeswar Chandra Roy in Jamalpur, Sherpur and Satkhira, Mirza Abbas in Chittagong, Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan in Faridpur and Bogra, Nazrul Islam Khan in Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj and some other senior leaders of the party will travel other organisational districts.
BNP Chairperson’s adviser Advocate Ahmad Azam Khan, who will lead the organisational committee in Narail, hoped that the leaders and workers of the party would remain active on the streets after the organisational tours of the party senior leaders.
