BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia on Sunday filed three petitions with the High Court seeking bail in three separate cases. The HC may hold hearings on the petitions today (Monday).
Of the three cases, two were filed in Cumilla on charge of vandalising vehicles on January 25 in 2015 and killing seven persons and injuring 25-26 by setting fire to a passenger bus at Chauddagram on February 2, 2015.
The third case was filed by Raihan Faruki Imam with a Narail court on September 24, 2015, for making a statement about
the number of freedom fighters and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Khaleda said on December 21, 2015, at a meeting in the Institution of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB) in Dhaka that Sheikh Mujib did not want independence of the country because he wanted to be the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
Khaleda Zia added there was a controversy about the number of freedom fighters.
Khaleda’s lawyer Advocate M Masud Rana filed the petitions with the HC earlier in the morning with the consent of the BNP chief to file the three bail petitions.
Earlier on May 16, the SC upheld a HC order that granted bail to Khaleda for four months in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case in which she was sentenced to five years imprisonment.
But she is still in the jail as she has been shown arrested in seven other cases in including the three.
