Imprisoned BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia declined treatment offer at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital although the jail authority took preparation to take her there on Sunday for medical check-up.
Jail and BSMMU authorities told journalists that Khaleda Zia expressed her unwillingness to get treatment at BSMMU.
“The jail authorities told us that Khaleda Zia would be brought here. We prepared cabins for her. But later they informed us that she would not be admitted to BSMMU,” said BSMMU Director Brigadier General Abdullah Al-Harun in a press briefing at around 1:00pm on the hospital premises.
He said, “We hope that Khaleda Zia would be brought here later for her better medical treatment.”
Earlier on Sunday morning, the authorities took preparations to take Khaleda Zia to the hospital for her better treatment as per the court order.
The hospital authority prepared cabin Nos. 621 and 622 rooms in VIP cabin block for her.
Meanwhile, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that Khaleda Zia is seriously sick. Even she failed to sit easily on the bed or wheel chair.
In the meantime, pro-BNP doctors organization Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) leaders said that Khaleda Zia wanted to get treatment from United Hospital as that is an specialized one. “Her own physicians are also working there,” said DAB Convener Dr. Farhad Halim Donor.
DAB President of BSMMU Dr. Saiful Islam Selim said, “Khaleda Zia is not eager to get admitted to BSMMU because she got treatment there two times, but failed to recover from sickness.”
On March 3, Khaleda Zia attended a court hearing and told the judges that she was feeling sick seriously.
On March 4, a BNP delegation led by its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir met Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan to discuss Khaleda Zia’s health condition and her treatment.
After the meeting the home minister told the journalists that the BNP chief will be sent to BSMMU soon for her better treatment.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been serving jail term in a graft case since February 8, 2018.
