UNB, Dhaka :In a scathing attack on her arch rival, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is the ‘mother of a godfather’ as her government is patronising a known Narayanganj godfather.”Today, Awami League’s (supreme) leader (Hasina) is the mother of a godfather. They (govt) are providing shelter to a Narayanganj godfather, patronising him, and have taken his all responsibilities,” Khaleda said on Sunday night while consoling the families of Laxmipur BNP leaders who were allegedly killed and made disappeared in the last eight months.Khaleda came up with the harsh remark apparently in response to the premier’s recent announcement in parliament that she will be there with the Osman family in Narayanganj.Referring to the PM’s speech, Khaleda said the country’s people cannot expect anything good from those providing shelter to persons like the Narayanganj godfather.Accusing the government of killing and making disappeared a number of dedicated BNP leaders in a bid to hang onto power, she said, “A total of 310 BNP leaders have been killed while 65 others made disappeared so far.”Khaleda blamed ruling party cadres and law enforcement agencies, including Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), for the incidents of killing and forced disappearance. She also said, Hasina cannot be spared for her involvement in the incidents of killing and abduction.Reiterating her demand for disbanding RAB, Khaleda called upon BNP followers to ‘gherao’ (encircle) the members of RAB and police if they come out to pick up people. The former Prime Minister also mentioned the name of RAB additional director general Col Ziaul Ahsan and demanded his immediate removal from the elite force, and his trial.Asking the government to quit power and hold a fresh national election, she said, “Awami League remains in power illegally as it didn’t come to power through people’ votes. I ask them to hold a fresh election immediately.”Pointing to the killing of people at a Bihari camp in the city, Khaleda said, innocent children, aged women were burnt alive. There cannot be a worse offence than this. The BNP chief said the Hasina government will be tried in the international court for committing such crimes.
