UNB, Dhaka :
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Monday filed an appeal against the High Court order that rejected the two writ petitions filed by Khaleda Zia in the Zia Charitable Trust and Zia Orphanage Trust graft cases.
Khaleda Zia’s lawyer filed the appeal with the relevant section of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, said Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon.
The hearing of the appeal is expected to be held as soon as possible, he added. The writ petitions were filed on Khaleda’s behalf by her counsel Mohammad Asaduzzaman challenging the legality of the appointment of special Judge Basudev Roy who framed charges in the two graft cases.
On June 19, the HC rejected two writ petitions filed by BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia that had challenged the legality of the appointment of a special judge. On May 25, the High Court delivered dissenting verdicts on the two writ petitions.
While the senior judge of the HC bench, Justice Farah Mahbub stayed the proceedings of the two cases for three months, junior judge Justice Kazi Md Ejarul Haque Akondo outright rejected the petitions.
