Independent candidate has won Chowmuhani municipal election in Noakhali district.
Md Khaled Saifullah bagged 13,412 votes while his nearest candidate Awami League nominated candidate Akhter Hossain Foysal got 10,995 votes and BNP nominated Jahir Uddin Harun 5,977 votes.
District Election Officer and Returning Officer Md Rabiul Alam confirmed the matter.
There are 54,254 voters -24,541 female and 28,513 male-in the municipality.
Voting in 20 polling centres in nine wards was held from 8am to 4pm.
Khalid Saifullah is the elder brother of local MP Mamunur Rashid Kiran. As he did not get nomination from Awami League, he contested as independent candidate.
