The hacked college girl Khadija Akter Nargis, 23, now kept on life support at Square Hospital in the city has remained in critical condition on Wednesday, say physicians .
“She (Khadija) is still in a critical condition. As she has been kept for 72 hours observation, nothing can be said right now,” Mirza Nazim Uddin, Medical Director of Square Hospital told reporters yesterday morning.
Replying to a query whether Khadija will be taken abroad for better treatment, he said in this condition it is not possible to take her abroad.
“Her status can be assessed after 72 hours. But we are still hopeful of improvement.”
Khadiza Nargis was shifted to Square Hospital in capital Dhaka from Sylhet in a critical condition early Tuesday and now she has been kept on life support there. She has been kept for 72 hours observation.
She is now undergoing treatment under Rezaus Sattar, Senior Advisor of Neuro Surgery Department of Square Hospital.
Talking to journalists Rezaus Sattar said that her condition showed no improvement.
“As she was stabbed in the head severely by a sharp weapon, she has remained in critical condition,” he said, adding if she is found alive after 72 hours observation, it would be a miracle one.
Physicians of Square Hospital are trying their best to keep the ill-fated college girl alive, he said.
Khadija, an honours second year student of Sylhet Government Mohila College, came under attack on the campus on Monday afternoon by a Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader Badrul Alam, also a student of Economics Department of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST). She was stabbed in the head, hands and legs by a sharp weapon.
Badrul used to live as a lodging tutor with the family residence of Khadija in the past and at that time he proposed her, but she had rejected.
Meanwhile, Badrul confessed hacking Khadiza to kill in his confessional statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPc) on Wednesday.
Sylhet Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Umme Sharaban Tahura recorded his hour-long statement that started at around 3.30 pm yesterday.
Badrul, 27, was produced before the court at 3.15 pm amid high security from Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment for his injuries as he was beaten by the mob after that monstrous incident on October 3. And later he was sent to jail.
Earlier on Tuesday the authorities of SUST suspended Badrul Alam for attacking Khadija.
National Human Rights Commission Chairman Kazi Reazul Hoque termed the attacker as murder urging law enforcers to press charges against him immediately.
“The attacker is a criminal and murderer. The attacker, who stabbed Khadija, will be brought to justice, no matter what his political association is”, he told reporters after visiting Khadija at Square Hospital.
