Kh Mosharraf sent to jail

A Dhaka court on Sunday sent BNP Standing Committee Member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain to jail after he was produced before the court on completion of three-day remand in a money laundering case.
Magistrate Shahriar Mahmud Adnan of Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court passed the order rejecting a bail petition, submitted on behalf of the BNP leader. Earlier, the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Deputy Director Ahsan Ali appealed to the court to send him to the jail.
On Thursday, Magistrate Shamsul Arefin of the CMM Court placed him on the remand to quiz in
connection with the alleged money. The case statement says that Mosharraf laundered Tk 9,53,95,382 to his joint account with his wife Bilquis Akhter with a private bank of London from 2001 to 2006, when he was a minister.
However, he told the court on Thursday that he opened the account when he was in London and deposited pounds for share business there, which accumulated to the present amount. Besides, he earned money when he was in London from 1969 to 1973 for his Ph D degree.
Advocate Sanaullah Miah moved the bail petition of Dr Khandaker Mosharraf.
