Advocate Khandker Mahbub Hossain, convener of Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum, denied accepting floral greetings from the Forum’s workers and activists amid his concern over jailed BNP chief Khaleda Zia’s illness who is now in jail.
“I am seriously worried over our party chief’s illness in jail. So, I cannot accept the floral reception until she is freed from jail,” he said.
Mahbub Hossain, also the Vice-chairman of BNP, came up with the comment when a section of lawyers went to greet him at his High Court’s law chamber on Sunday, as he has been made the convener of the new convening committee of Jatiyatabadi
Ainjibi Forum, a platform of pro-BNP lawyers.
“We have to form a greater unity for the release of Begum Khaleda Zia as her health condition is deteriorating in jail and it is our prime task. So, we want her release first. Until her release I would not accept the greeting,” said Khandker Mahbub Hossain, adding, “We will address the grievances of dedicated Forum’s leaders and activists by accommodating them in its full-fledged committee.”
Khaleda is serving a five-year sentence after she was convicted of embezzling money meant for an orphanage, a charge she had consistently dismissed as politically motivated.
