The High Court on Wednesday granted anticipatory bail for four weeks to 10 lawyers, including Bar Council vice chairman and BNP chairperson’s adviser Khandker Mahbub Hossain in a case filed on charges of obstructing police on duty and damaging the car of Justice Farid Ahmed on the Supreme Court premises.An HC division bench comprising Justice Syed AB Mahmudul Huq and Justice Kashefa Hussain passed the order after the accused-petitioners surrendered to it seeking bail.The other accused are Sanaullah Mia, Fahima Nasrin Munni, Sharif U Ahmed, Lipi Akter, Jiban, Salam Talukdar, Iqbal, Abdur Rahim and ASM Jahurul Islam.Police filed the case with the Shahbagh Police Station against the lawyers on Monday for allegedly creating obstacles to the law enforcers, attempting to murder, damaging the car of a HC judge, hurting police constable Mustafiz and SC security guard Alamgir during a series of clashes on the SC premises.Advocate AJ Mohamamd Ali appeared for the accused while Deputy Attorney General Dr M Bashirullah for the state.On another petition, the same bench granted anticipatory bail for four weeks to barrister Rafiqul Islam Mian on surrender in two separate cases filed with Paltan Police Station on charge of instigating people to set ablaze two motorcycles on Monday.Besides, the court also granted anticipatory bail to two BNP leaders, including BNP Chairperson adviser Abdul Awal Mintoo and joint secretary general Amanullah Aman, for four weeks in two separate cases filed with Paltan Police Station.
