The central bank on Wednesday asked the authorities of the private commercial banks to bring the treasury officials in vigil net in a bid to prevent any possible heist in their banks.
Governor Fazle Kabir came up with the directive at a meeting with the representatives of Banks Association of Bangladesh (BAB) held at the Bangladesh Bank in the capital.
“The newly elected Governor has instructed us to keep vigil on our treasury officials to avert any untoward situation in future,” Nazrul Islam Majumder, President of BAB told reporters while emerging the meeting.
He said, he (governor) also asked me to properly scrutinize treasury officials’ passports, bio-data and other relevant documents while appointing them at the treasury department.
Every bank has a treasury department and officials of the department are responsible to control and manage the liquidity, cash inflows and outflows.
They are also responsible for liaising with the bodies that regulate banks, which set rules regarding banks’ capital and liquidity.
