Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor Sayeed Khokon on Tuesday asked traders not to hike the prices of essentials during Ramzan and hang price lists in their shops.
The mayor gave the directive while visiting Hatirpool Bazar.
“I urge the traders not to raise the prices of essentials ahead of and during Ramadan as it only causes sufferings to people,” he told reporters after his visit to the kitchen market.
Later, the mayor visited the flower and bird market at Katabon in the city and evicted small shops which were set up illegally on footpaths.
“We’ve launched an eviction drive on the city’s footpaths for easing the movement of pedestrians,” he said.
