BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Thursday alleged that the government is hatching conspiracy to rig votes in the Khulna City Corporation (KCC) polls.
“Awami League staged a drama by going to the Election Commission with a complaint that there’s no level-playing field in KCC polls. They did it as part of their conspiracy to rig votes,” he said this while addressing a discussion at the Jatiya Press Club in the city.
Khaleda Zia Mukti Parishad and Ganotantrik Sangskritik Jote jointly arranged the programme demanding BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s release from jail.
Dr. Mosharraf said, “We would like to say do not dare to rig votes as the people of Khulna are ready to foil any such step.”
He said, Awami League has got worried as a mass wave has been created in favour of BNP mayoral candidate Nazrul Islam Monju in Khulna.
“It is totally absurd that Awami League leaders have said there is no level-playing field in Khulna, when everybody knows that the police and the administration are under their control,” the BNP leader said.
He accused police of arresting around 150 leaders and activists of BNP in Khulna as part of the ruling party’s motive of doing irregularities during the voting.
He warned that the people would not allow the next general election to be held without Khaleda Zia’s release from jail.
Dr. Mosharraf urged the BNP leaders and activists to get ready for creating a mass-upsurge like that of anti-quota movement to make Khaleda Zia free from jail and for ensuring inclusive polls.
Mizanur Rahman, acting President of Khaleda Zia Mukti Parishad presided over the programme. BNP Joint-Secretary General Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Executive Committee Member Abu Naser Muhammad Rahmatullah, NDP acting Secretary General Monjur Hossain Isa, among others, spoke on the occasion.
