Kazakhstan, a Central Asian country with less population, may be a new destination for Bangladeshi workers, manpower exporters express optimism.
“A team of delegation will visit Kazakhstan, a vast oil-gas and other mineral rich country, soon to facilitate manpower export to that country as a new destination,” Shamim Ahmed Chowdury Noman, General Secretary of Bangladesh Association of International Recruitment Agencies (BAIRA), told The New Nation.
He said that there are huge potentials of the country to export enormous Bangladeshi workers to Kazakhstan.
A former Soviet Union state — Kazakhstan — is a world’s ninth largest country with an area of 2,724,900 square kilometres in Central Asia. The country has borders with Russia, China and its central Asian neighbours, including Uzbekistan, Kirgizstan and Turkmenistan.
The vast mineral rich country also engaged in various development works, including urban areas, roads and industries. It has huge agriculture lands but fewer workers.
The country has only 18.9 million people, which pushed it to hire workers from abroad for almost every sector.
Large numbers of Tajik, Kyrgyz, Uzbek and Russian workers are working in that country. Some Pakistani and Indian workers are also working in different sectors like constructions, oil and gas industries.
BAIRA leaders said that Bangladesh is an enormous source of experienced workers to be employed at Kazakh oil, gas and construction sites.
Huge numbers of Bangladeshi workers are working in similar fields in Middle Eastern countries in decades.
Nevertheless, a large number of Bangladeshi workers are also working in Malaysia’s agro field and other technological factories.
“In this view, our workers are able to work Kazakhstan’s agro field and rising industries,” said Shamim Ahmed Chowdhury.
“As Kazakhstan is a very fast growing economy with less population, the country becomes a great destination for foreign manpower.
Bangladeshi manpower can take the chance,’ the BAIRA leader said. He said, the Bangladesh team members have a plan to meet employers, industrialists, business leaders and officials to find out sectors for Bangladeshi manpower during their planned visit.
They are hopeful to convince the businesspersons and officials about efficiency of the Bangladeshi workers.
“We are hopefully that a golden door will be opened with recruiting opportunities of Bangladeshi workers there as our manpower is mostly eligible to work every sectors of the country,” the BAIRA general secretary said.
He said, after visiting the country, BAIRA will recommend to the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment to make a high level trip to the country.
“We want the Expatriates’ Welfare Minister will visit the country to pave the way to send our workers there soon, and it is very much possible,” he said.
Meanwhile, the manpower exporters said, if the door of Kazakhstan opens soon, the other Central Asian countries like oil and gas rich Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan, and Tourism oriented Uzbekistan will open their market for our workers as they are also suffering from manpower shortages.
To explore a new horizon is a must to continue and increase our remittance flow as it is contributing to our economy enormously, the said.
Professor Dr. Tasneem Siddiqui, Chair of the Refugee and Migratory Movements Research Unit (RMMRU) of the University of Dhaka, told The New Nation, “Bangladesh needs to discover new destinations for our manpower employment abroad as most of the traditional markets are being shrink day by day.”
She said that Central Asia, especially Kazakhstan. might be a door of huge opportunity for our manpower seeking to be employed abroad as it is a rich and fast rising economy in the world.
The country is advancing fast towards development after its independence in 1990s, she said.
