A case has been filed against an Awami League leader with a court in Barishal for allegedly raping a young woman alluring her of marrying and offering job.
The case was filed by the woman of village Amua of Ward No. 3 under Kathalia upazila with Barishal Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal early Tuesday afternoon.
The woman filed the case against Kathalia upazila chairman and Upazila Awami League general secretary Emdadul Huq Monir. Besides, another person, named as Mithu Sikder of Jangalia under Kathalia upazila was implicated in the case on charge of extending cooperation to Monir for raping.
After hearing the case, Judge Abu Shamim Azad ordered Barishal Kotwali Model Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) to submit a report investigating the allegations before October 4.
The case statement reads that after passing the HSC exams in 2017, the complainant went to the then upazila vice-chairman Emdadul Huq Monir for a job. Alluring her of ensuring a job, Monir first developed a love affair with her and then offered to marry her. Later, Monir claimed that he had married her taking her signature on a blank paper and raped her many times taking the woman to his rented house at Agarpur Road in Barishal city.
However, Monir declined to accept the woman as his wife. In such a situation, the rape victim filed a case with the tribunal. She and her mother also demanded fair trial into the matter.

Contacted, Kathalia Upazila chairman and AL leader Emdadul Huq Monir said the case was filed with a view to “harassing him politically.”
