UNB, Dhaka :
Kamrul Islam, the prime accused in the teenage boy Rajon murder case, will be brought back home from Saudi Arabia today (Thursday).
A three-member police team along with Kamrul is scheduled to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital by a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines around 3:30pm.
The police team, led by additional superintendent of police Mahbubul Karim, left Dhaka for Saudi Arabia on Monday for bringing back the accused. Sources at the Police Headquarters said as there is no ‘repatriation of prisoners’ agreement with Saudi Arabia, absconding accused Kamrul will be brought back through Interpol.
The National Central Bureau (NCB) of Police Headquarters on July 21 issued a red notice against absconding Kamrul through Interpol after getting confirmation that he was arrested in Riyadh.
It has so far brought back nine absconding accused through Interpol from different countries.
On July 8, 13-year-old boy Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajon, son of Sheikh Azizur Rahman of Badeali village in Sadar upazila of Sylhet, was brutally tortured to death over a theft at Sundar Ali Market in Kumargaon area of the Sylhet city.
The killers themselves took the video footage of the incident, which went viral on social networking site Facebook and video-sharing site Youtube which triggered a widespread outcry. Ten people were arrested in connection with the gruesome murder and eight of them made ‘confession’ separately to their involvement in the incident.
Later, the investigation officer of the case submitted charge sheet accusing 13 people, including absconding Kamrul, on August 16 before the court in Sylhet. The other accused are Muhit Alam, 32, Shamim Alam, 20, Pavel Islam, 18, Ali Haider alias Ali, 34, Moyna Mia, 45, Nur Ahmed alias Nuru Mia, 20, Dulal Ahmed, 30, Ayaz Ali, 45, Taz Uddin Badal, 28, Firoz Mia, 50, Asmat Ali, 42, and Ruhul Amin, 25.
The three fugitive accused are Kamrul Islam, his brother Shamim Ahmed and Pavel.
Kamrul Islam, 24, fled to Saudi Arabia after the incident where he was held by local Bangladeshis and then handed over to Jeddah police. The Saudi Interior Ministry earlier approved the extradition of Kamrul to Bangladesh. On July 21, Interpol issued a notice against him.
