Backing the dialogue as proposed by ‘Concerned Citizens’ over the current political violence, Gano Forum president Dr Kamal Hossain on Saturday urged the government to invite all political parties and social pressure groups to engage in talks for forging a national unity.
“Dialogue is not a bad word, but now attempts are being made to demonize it,” he said.
Dr Kamal said this while addressing a sit-in programme titled ‘No more terrorism and violence, establish peace and
democracy, and there’ s no alternative to national dialogue,” organised by Nagorik Oakiya at Suharawardy Udyan in the capital.
The noted jurist also urged people to get united and vocal against those pushing the country into abnormal situation through violence as people can bring back peace in the country with their united efforts and there is not doubt about it.
At the programme, Nagorik Oaikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna urged the Prime Minister to announce a specific date for dialogue in resolving the ongoing political crisis putting an end to the unrest.
He was critical of the role of both the BNP and the ruling Awami League and urged them, “Stop the blame game as people are being repressed by your activities and the country is heading towards destruction.”
Gano Forum presidium member advocate Subrata Chowdhury, its general secretary Mostafa Mohsin Montu, CPB general secretary Syed Abu Zafar Ahmed, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) president ASM Abdur Rab, former MP of Awami League Sultan Mohammad Monsur, BSD general secretary Khaliquzzaman also spoke on the occasion.
