Court Correspondent :
The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Sunday denied the bail plea of actor Kalyan Koiry in the case filed in connection with the injury of the Prothom Alo’s chief photojournalist Zia Islam.
Magistrate Abdullah Al Masud of the CMM Court passed the order as the report on interrogation of
accused Kalyan Koiry not produced to the court and no objection certificate from the previous lawyer of Koiry was submitted to court till Sunday for allowing a new lawyer to move his case. Lawyers of Zia Islam opposed the bail for these two reasons. Meanwhile, Koiry engaged a new lawyer to move the case filed against him.
An air ambulance carried Zia to Singapore from the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Friday evening. Run over by a speeding car on January 9 at the capital’s Panthapath, Zia was first rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital with severe injuries in his head and legs and then shifted to a modern private hospital in critical condition where he was kept in the intensive care unit under medical observation for 48 hours after an operation. Physicians at the hospital said Zia’s condition was stable before his departure for Singapore.
On January 10, the Prothom Alo journalist suffered critical injuries after the private car of the actor allegedly hit his motor bike in the capital’s Panthapath area.
