The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday granted bail to actor and model Kalyan Corraya, in a case filed in connection with a hit-and-run incident that left the Chief Photojournalist of the Prothom Alo critically injured.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Kaisarul Islam of the CMM Court passed the
order after Sub-Inspector Omar Faruk Khan, the Investigation Officer of the case, submitted a progress report on the interrogation of the accused at jail gate to the court.
Earlier on Sunday, Magistrate Mohammad Abdulla Al Masud of the CMM Court did not consider the bail plea of Kalyan as the IO could not submit the progress report till Sunday.
Another court of Dhaka allowed the IO to interrogate accused Kalyan at the jail gate within three days in case filed with Kalabagan Police Station. Bengali daily, the Prothom Alo, Chief Photojournalist Zia Islam suffered severe injuries in his head and legs when a speedy car allegedly of the actor and model Kalyan hit his motorbike from behind in front of Bashundhara City in Panthapath area on January 9. Police of Kalabagan Police Station arrested Kalyan the next day.
Zia was fast rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and then shifted to a modern private hospital the next day where he was kept in the intensive care unit and undergone a major surgery. He was kept under observation for 48 hours there and as his condition remained later stable he was taken to Singapore for better treatment on Friday last.
