Kalihati death toll now 4

Staff Reporter :Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mokhlesur Rahman has claimed there might be a ‘third party’ behind the incident at Kalihati Upazila in Tangail district on Friday. The incident was very ‘tragic’ and ‘unwanted’.After a meeting on law and order, the acting IGP said this in a press briefing at Police Headquarters in the city on Sunday afternoon. The protesters tried to launch an attack on the police station, which is also not acceptable, the acting police chief said.Policemen acted according to the law. However, allegations of negligence against policemen will be investigated, the IGP said.In the meantime, the number of death toll rose to four as another man succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) on Sunday night.The victim was identified as Rubel Hossain, said Md Shahidul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the police station. Earlier on Saturday night, two cases were filed with Kalihati and Ghatail police stations in connection with the incident in Tangail which killed four persons.More than 300 people were made accused in the case filed with Kalihati police station and more than 400 sued in the case with Ghatail Police Station.However, none was arrested in connection with the incident, acting police super of Tangail Sanjoy Sarkar said.
