Children , teachers attending classes in risky building: Kaliganj Pry School may collapse anytime

A fatal accident might take place at anytime as the children and teachers are attending in a risky government primary school in Kaliganj Upazila of Jhenaidah .
The school building constructed by Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), has become unfit within 19 years of the construction work.
The LGED in Jhenaidah about two years back opined that as the school building turned into risky, locals with the assistance of the teachers serving in the school have placed bamboo poles under the beams of the building to protect the building from collapse.
Some guardians said, Chapali Government Primary School under Kaliganj municipality was established in 1972 by some local interested people to ensure basic and primary education among the learners. Later, LGED constructed the building in 1994 which became unfit before 2013.
The school was nationalized in 2013 where a total of 153 minor learners have been studying.
But the beams were cracked and plasters from the roofs and walls are falling frequently. The dilapidated building might collapse anytime and fatal accident takes place, the locals apprehending.
Headmaster of Chapali Government Primary School Kamal Kanti said, they noticed the matter to local education office for taking immediate steps to renovate the school three years back. Five teachers have been serving in the school in panic fearing collapse of the building at any moment.
A team of the engineers about two years back visited the school assuring them for submitting a proposal to build a new building there which went in vein, headmaster said.
Upazila Primary Education Officer in Kaliganj Salma Khatun when contacted said, they submitted a proposal to the higher authorities for reconstruction of a building for Chapali government primary school. The name of the school was top of the list, UPEO said.
