A teenage inmate of Jessore Juvenile Rehabilitation Centre allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself on Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Gobinda Soren, 15, son of Sushil Soren of Tantihat area in Tanore upazila of Rajshahi district.
Mohammad Sahabuddin, assistant director of the centre, said other inmates found the hanging body Gobinda and informed him around 10am.
He was rescued and taken to Jessore General Hospital where physicians declared him dead on arrival, Sahabuddin added.
Gobinda was sent to this juvenile rehabilitation centre on June 14 after being accused in an attempt to murder case filed with Tanore Police Station in Rajshahi.
M Masud Billah, probationary officer at the centre, said Gobinda talked to his mother over phone on Thursday morning. His mother assured to take steps to release him three months later.
“Gobinda may have committed suicide as he thought it would take time to get release from the centre,” he added.
