Justice Wahhab new acting CJ

The government has made Supreme Court’s Appellate Division senior most judge Md Abdul Wahhab Miah as the acting Chief Justice of Bangladesh after the Chief Justice, Surendra Kumar Sinha, sought one month’s leave.
The Law Ministry issued a gazette notification in this regard and the notification reached Abdul Wahhab Miah around 11:30pm on Monday, said Supreme Court officials. Hours after taking responsibilities of the Chief Justice on Tuesday, Md. Abdul Wahhab Miah held a full court meeting with the participation of judges of both the Appellate Division and High Court Division.
The meeting was held at 2:15pm at the Supreme Court Judges Lounge. A notice in this regard signed by Azizul Haque, Deputy Registrar of the High Court, was published on the Supreme Court website.
According to a gazette notification issued by the Law Ministry last night, Md Abdul Wahhab Miah, a senior judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, will discharge the duties of Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha as he went on a month long leave from Tuesday.
Justice Wahhab and four other judges of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court yesterday heard several cases for around an hour from 9:05am. Later, he along with other judges of both the Appellate Division and High Court Division took part at a courtesy meeting at the Supreme Court premises. Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha went on one month’s leave on health grounds.
