Juri community clinic sets record of normal deliveries

Twenty five years old Khadija Akter of Barlekha Upazila of Moulvibazar got married in Chauddagram of Comilla. She moved to her father’s house a few months ago as she was pregnant. Her relatives brought her to the Bhogtera Community Clinic in Juri Upazila around 7am on 10th August due to labor pains.
Khadija said, various old-age complications, I lost all hope of my life. But, suddenly the community clinic changed the scenario. I gave birth to a baby boy at 9:20 am with the help of Lipa Khanam, a private obstetrician at the clinic. Through this, the clinic records one thousand of normal deliveries. Of these, seven women have given births twin.
As a result, the total number of children born is one thousand seven.
Husna Begum, a resident of Bhogtera village said, we the people of Bhogtera village no longer worry about diseases now. We go to the nearby community clinic when we suffer from fever or stomach disorders. We don’t need to buy medicines as we get free medicines there.
Not only Khadija Akter or Husna, the people of a number of villages in Moulvibazar district were very happy with the medical services provided by the Bhogtera Community Clinic.
Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Samarjit Singha said, as a small community clinic inside the rural village, known as the ‘Hospital of the Poor’ in Juri Upazila of Moulvibazar, has set a record for the one thousand of normal deliveries free of cost for 9 years. The clinic in Sylhet division is in the first place in normal delivery. It is encouraging locals to follow normal delivery avoiding caesarian delivery.
Community Health care provider (CHCP) Haniful Islam said, the clinic started its journey with the initiative of locals and upazila health division at the land of a local resident named Moinul Islam in 2012. On January 12, 2012, the first baby was born in the clinic without any caesarian section. A total of 1007 babies were born there in normal vaginal deliveries. Of them, 540 were baby girls, 367 were baby boys and 7 were twins.
