Judicial inquiry ordered over police brutality on Jessore student

The High Court has ordered to open a judicial inquiry over allegations of police torture on a college student in Jessore.
Following a virtual hearing over a petition on Monday, Justice JBM Hassan said that the probe should be carried out by a judicial officer not below the rank of district and sessions judge.
The court gave 60 days for filing of the inquiry report before it.
Imran Hossain, a second-year student of Kazi Nazrul Islam Degree College in Jessore was allegedly tortured by police on June 3 without any reason, according to media reports.
In line with the previous order by the court, Jessore civil surgeon filed all relevant medical documents, including a dope test report of Imran to the court on Monday.
After hearing a petition filed on June 18, the High Court ordered on June 23 the civil surgeon’s office to submit medical documents of Imran, who is being treated now at a hospital.
Later on June 28, the court asked for a dope test of the victim, which was heard during Monday’s hearing.
