Juba Dal Secy Gen Tuku put on remand

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday (Wednesday) placed Juba Dal Secretary General Sultan Salauddin Tuku on a 3-day remand in a case filed with Shahbagh Police Station of the city under the Special Powers Act. Magistrate Pranab Kumar Hui of the CMM Court passed the remand order after hearing on Wednesday.
Earlier, on June 12, Investigation Officer of the case, DB Police SI Muhammad Saiful Islam sought a seven-day remand of Tuku, but in absence of the case docket, the court fixed June 20 for remand hearing. Tuku was brought to the court on the day of hearing. The Investigation Officer told the court that the remand of the accused was necessary for quizzing the fugitives of the case to collect their names and whereabouts.
Meanwhile, advocates Sanaullah Miah, Golam Mostafa Khan, Iqbal Hossain and other lawyers sought cancellation of the remand prayer and granting of bail of the accused. The court rejected the bail plea and granted the remand prayer.
The case docket says that on March 6 at noon, BNP and its front organizations’ leaders and activists wanted to bring a procession from in front of the Jatiya Press Club after their human chain programme. Later, Shabagh Police Station SI Sujan Kumar Roy filed the case with the police station the same day.
On June 12, Salauddin Tuku was arrested from his Uttara residence of the city.
